It’s so hard to celebrate #MemorialDay2025 — and most patriotic holidays — now, knowing everything that went on behind the scenes to trigger the wars that resulted in the mass loss of life we remember + honor today, a majority of which was orchestrated by our own government. But even as I write this, it hit me:
This is exactly why we must celebrate the brave men and women who selflessly gave up their lives to protect total strangers in the HOPES of giving them safety and #Freedom.
Yes there were and are some savage bad actors, but I believe that almost all of the men + women who persevere through training do so because they want to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” and “bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” I know because @yoder_esq and I represent many of them. Those are my people and for this, I will honor them — today and every day — fighting in my own way to defend the #LightOnTheHill for my children and all those children to come.
“Most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives: the ones they were living and the ones they would have lived.” — Ronald Regan
This is why we must celebrate #MemorialDay and every other day meticulously set aside to honor the husbands, fathers, wives, sisters mothers, sons, brothers, daughters, mentors, colleagues, nieces, nephews, and friends — and the families they left behind — to ensure their lives were not actually given in vain.
This is why we must live our lives x 3 — ours + the 2 they gave up for us — cherishing, defending, and living out the rights + freedoms they died for.
